Just got out about a month ago. The place fucking sucks, so boring no ESPN alot of fags. I would not recommend it. Parole sucked too, some nerdy cocksucker always in your business. My conviction got overturned in March, but all in all I did like two years. Just so no one thinks I'm a child predator it was for AG Assault on a cop. Just wondering if anyone else has had the pleasure?

Were you at the Pen in Sioux Falls or was it the Pennington County Jail? I hear the Pen is a pu$$y prison from people who have been there. It's not like some of the hardcore prisons in Florida or New York or California.

Did you beat up any child molesters?

I was in Sioux Falls, although I have slept a rough night or two off in Pennington County. Of course I did what any good person would do and took care of a couple child molestors.

You from around here?

I can't imagine being in prison. Is it possible to just do your time, read books in your cell, not talk to anyone, and be left alone? The shows I've seen on MSNBC make it seem like you are fucked, and have to be willing to fight. I'm sure there are law abiding citizens like myself that have been wrongly convicted of murder, then find themselves blended together in the midst of some of the worst motherfuckers this world has seen. The shows I've seen make it seem like you would have to adapt and become a tough guy, or you would get killed in there.

Meh. Someone was saying in another thread about prison how the books are old and sucky for the most part.

I'm the first to admit that the South Dakota Penitentiary is not the toughest around. The main thing is just don't let people fuck with you after about a month you pass the little initiation and people leave you alone. You have no idea how boring it can be reading all day every day. The shearboredom of the place is crazy.

Raider- were you innocent?

Not entirely, I was drunk and an off duty cop started hassling me at the bar. We knew each other from previous run ins and got into it. I pretty muched kicked his ass bad and was charged with Aggravated assault since he was a cop. My conviction was overturned because he was off duty and it should have only been misdemeanor assault. All in all it was basically a bar fight, he wanted to as much as I did. The wheels of justice move extremely slow when appealing and that is why I sat the two years.

I used to live in Sioux Falls. I did some temp work with a guy who got picked up for selling drugs at the Sturgis Rally. He was from Florida and spent some time in their prison system before SD.

He said the SD Pen is pretty tame. He also said that the child molesters were kept pretty much separate from the other population. I guess they let them out to take showers with the main prison population but said that the only ones that got picked on were the ones who didn't fight back.

I guess it's kind of hard to really tell what is true from some ex-inmates though.

illini - yes you could do that if you were an extreme introvert. however you like to interact with people then you would adapt, you would have to fight at some point most likely but you might adapt. sleep on concrete , eat like shit and live in close queaters with muthaeffers with TB and other shit, you would want to fight

The reason South Dakota prisons are so tame is 75% of the inmates would not be in prison for their crime in other state. I'm not a druggie but if you fail a drug test for coke, meth, crack etc... They charge you with a BS crime called possesion of a controlled substance by ingestion. It is a class 4 felony that you can get 10 years for. I met many people serving 10 year sentences because they failed a drug test.
